MANİSA (DİHA) - The families of the 301 workers killed in the country’s worst ever mining disaster at the Soma coal mine in western Turkey held a rally ahead of the first anniversary of the tragic incident on May 10.
The rally, titled “We did not forget Soma and we will not let it be forgotten,” was held by the families and relatives of the 301 miners killed on May 13, 2014, in a coal mine in Soma district of Aegean province of Manisa.
The names of the 301 victims were read aloud one-by-one during the rally, as the crowd chanted “present” in response to each name. Banners with the names of the miners were carried by their families.
Several women, many of them the widows of some of the victims, fainted during the rally. The rally was also attended by a number of people representing civil societies and political parties.
